Senior SBA Loan Underwriter – In Office (Irvine, California)
Salary range: $85,000 – $120,000

Senior SBA Loan Underwriter professionals play a crucial role in executing the CDC’s mission to serve as a dependable provider of credit to small businesses across California. The Senior Underwriter performs the following main roles and other miscellaneous functions:
Position Summary: The Senior Loan Underwriter is primarily responsible for supporting Business Development Officers (BDOs) with loan prequalification, and subsequent credit analysis and loan packaging (loan application file preparation and submittal). Essential functions and duties include:
- Support business development staff with SBA 504 eligibility and compliance, and participate in client meetings as needed
- Collaborate with borrower prospects, lenders and brokers
- Spread borrower financials and pre-qualify loan applicants
- Prepare thorough and well-structured credit memorandums that provide an analysis of the borrower’s financial condition, business operations, and industry risks. Analysis includes cash flow, collateral, management experience, and overall loan viability, ensuring that every aspect of the borrower’s profile is examined
- Prepare and submit 504 loan packages to SBA for approval through E Tran
- Process, solve and answer complex customer transactions, problems or inquiries, comprehending requirements per SBA SOPs.
- Assist with process improvement initiatives for lending and loan underwriting
- Bachelor’s degree. Accounting or finance degree a plus
- At least 5 years of commercial credit underwriting experience with at least 3 years SBA 7a and/or 504 credit underwriting experience. Experience as financial analyst a plus
- Analytical thinking with high attention to detail
- Extremely well organized and have strong oral and written communication skills
- Possess strong customer service skills
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively are essential for success
- Able to work flexible schedules and overtime as workload requires, must be a strong team player with a high level of commitment to supporting borrower, partner and team member needs
- Personable and professional in all interactions with clients and business partners
- Flexible and able to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment without losing the required high level of accuracy and efficiency
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel and comfortable working with software systems, with an aptitude for learning new tools
